The Challenge
The living room had good size and beautiful architectural features, like the fireplace and Edinburgh press, but the layout did not make the most of them.
The sofa was placed against the wall, leaving the centre of the room empty and making the seating feel disconnected. The fireplace, which should have been the main focus, was not highlighted, and there wasn't a comfortable place where family and guests could gather.
The challenge was to create a more intimate layout that balanced everyday living without compromising circulation or the sense of openness.
The Solution
The furniture layout was completely reimagined by floating the sofa in the centre of the room, allowing it to define the living area while maintaining an open flow around it.
Two armchairs were positioned opposite the sofa to create a balanced conversation setting centred on the fireplace and coffee table.
A large rug anchors the seating arrangement, while layered lighting, textured fabrics and warm earthy tones bring depth and cohesion to the space.
The Edinburgh press has some open and some closed storage and was drenched in colour.
